Student Services Mural

Our very own Braddock VPA Art Department students have been working diligently in the Student Services department.  A mural, commissioned by the student services department, was begun this week and the students, staff and parents are very excited! 
We will be posting photos of the mural process throughout this venture.  Please feel free to comment.

2014 BIENNIAL SOUTHEASTERN COMPETITION @ Birmingham-Southern College

About the Competition

This biennial visual arts competition is hosted by the Art & Art History Department and Admissions Office at Birmingham-Southern College. The purpose of this competition is the recognition and promotion of talented rising artists in the Southeastern United States.  The winning artists will be listed in the Sunday 5th January publication of The News (previously The Birmingham News). All winners and finalists will receive a certificate suitable for framing.


Who’s Eligible?

The competition is open to all students attending the 9th through 12th grades in one of the ten (10) Southeastern states whose teachers recognize exemplary visual artwork.

Entry Fee
None.  Entry Forms & CDs/DVDs

1) Artists submit entries only through their instructor’s/teacher’s adjudicated selection.

2) Instructors/Teachers are responsible for filling-out the attachments pertaining to this competition so all material is consistent following entry specifications. The forms are:

a. Teacher Inventory Form (must accompany CD/DVD);

b. Student Information Form (must accompany CD/DVD); and

c. Artwork Competition Form (only if a student is accepted, comes with artwork).

3) Teachers are limited to no more than ten (10) original pieces (no more than two [2] per student) from exemplary artwork completed within the past two years.

4) CDs/DVDs will not be returned, so make duplicates prior to sending your entries.

5) Incomplete entry forms and information sheets, and improperly marked CDs/DVDs will be disqualified.

National Portfolio Day

Welcome to the National Portfolio Day Association
The National Portfolio Day Association (NPDA) was created in 1978, solely for the organization and planning of National Portfolio Days. The Association consists of representatives from regionally accredited US colleges and universities that are accredited institutional members of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and Canadian colleges and universities that are members of Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) or that hold NASAD Substantial Equivalency status.  NPDA is the only organization of its kind and the membership represent the highest standard of visual arts education available in the United States and Canada.
* Please note that NASAD only reviews curricular programs in the visual arts and design. For more information about specific majors please contact the college directly.

All Portfolio Day events are free, open to the public and do not require pre-registration.

Beaux Arts Student Artists Showcase


Middle and senior high students are showcased in the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum during the Beaux Arts Festival of Art. Detailed entry requirements apply; please refer to Beaux Arts-Artwork Guidelines.

NFAA Awards for Young Artists


To be eligible:
·         Be in 10-12th grades or age 15-18 (by December 1, 2013)
·         Be an emerging artist in instrumental music, composition, voice, jazz, dance, design, theater, visual arts, creative writing, photography or film

Student winners are eligible to receive:
-          Awards of up to $10,000 per student.  Over $500,000 awarded annually
-          National recognition for artistic excellence
-          Opportunity to be nominated as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts
-          National and  Regional Programs providing life-changing experiences
-          Opportunity to network with more than 17,000 alumni

Hispanic Heritage Month Visual Arts Exhibition

Falla, Kassandra, Grade 10 Hispanic Heritage Exhibition

Please congratulate Kassandra Fallon (Grade 10) for her acceptance into the Hispanic Heritage Month Visual Arts Exhibition.  This exhibition will be on display in the auditorium gallery of the School Board Administration Building.  This high profile exhibition is viewed by School Board Members, community dignitaries, and thousands of visitors.

Congratulations to Mr. Hechavarria, on being selected as a presenter at the 61st Conference of the Florida Art Education Association!  The conference will host over 700 Art Educators from around the state and provide over 300 professional development opportunities, which include Common Core Integration, College Board, Keynote Speakers, Multimedia/Apple Technology, New Media & Techniques, Museum Tours/Visits as well as an array of Art Forums on over 100+ topics.
