AVPA Visions Dancers are SHINING!

The month of December has been a busy month for our Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.  Our music and theater students have been performing all over the state in addition to our art department keeping our student busy with exhibitions and continuing mural beautification project.

Our VPA Visions Dancers have made their mark this year with performances at the Curriculum Expo in November and keeping busy in the month of December.

On Wednesday, December 13th, VPA Visions Dancers  showcased their talents at the Dr. Marta Perez Holiday Book Giveaway Event.

And on Tuesday, December 19th, the VPA Visions Dancers participated at the Student Choreography Showcase at Miami Senior High School.
Each year at this event, students in grades eight through twelve are encouraged to create new dance works and set them on themselves and other students in their dance classes.

Thespians shine at Individual Events Competition (IEs)

Braddock Thespians participated in their second week of Individual Events competition this past Saturday, December 16, 2017 and the results were amazing! The following events, and students, have qualified to represent Braddock at State competitions in March!

Braddock Theater shines at District Festival

On Saturday, December 2, 2017 the first part of the International Thespian Society's District Festival that took place at Miami Arts Studio in Miami, Florida.

Braddock Blue Regiment cleans up at FMBC

On Saturday, November 18th, the Braddock Blue Regiment competed at FMBC state semi finals at Tropicana Field in St Petersberg, FL.

G. Holmes Braddock are one of the top 10 bands in the state! This weekend they tied 8th place overall out of 18 bands in class 3A.

The color guard came in 2nd place out of 18 bands.

This year Braddock has 34 seniors in our marching band, making history within the last 20 years with that many seniors!




First Annual Breast Cancer 5K

AVPA participated at the First Annual 5K for Breast Cancer, Saturday, November 18th.  The event was hosted by Medical Science Honor Society, with the assistance of PTSA raising funds for the breast cancer research foundation.
Students, faculty, staff and community members participated in this first annual event, through the direction of Dr. Steiner and his club officers.

Braddock wins big in the 32nd Annual “Impressions in Watercolor” Student Art Exhibition

Talking with artist, Natasha Morris and "Zines"

In case you missed it...

LAMP sponsored their first visiting artist and workshop of the year with an amazing turn-out!

Metalsmith, Natasha Morris, came to Braddock on Thursday, November 2nd, to talk about her art and life as a working artist after college and how to market yourself.

Afterwards, participants were able to take part in making their own "Zines" with the artist herself.

AVPA shines at Curriculum Expo

On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, Braddock Senior High School had their annual Curriculum Expo, which showcases our school's programs and activities.  

Our new Drama teacher and Braddock's Rookie Teacher of the Year, Miss Laura Pons, joined the Academy this year, showcasing the Theater Department in glamour and style.


The art department received enthusiastic remarks about the new murals around campus and interior hallways of the art wing.







The Visions Dancers wowed the crowd in the Auditorium with three performances, as well as the Band captivating the audience in the gymnasium.

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, the Braddock Blue Regiment Marching Band earned third place in Class 4A, and Color Guard earned best in overall auxiliary at the Jupiter Festival of  Marching Bands competition.

SPED and AVPA Dancers Collaboration

What a joy to walk into a school where the energy levels are pumping!

On Thursday, October 19, 2017, in the gymnasium, the SPED department put together a wonderful interactive fair.  Booths that challenged students to maneuver wheel chairs around cones, play basketball with challenging obstacles, and activities that tested your skill set while restricting certain senses, were just a few things at the fair for students to engage in.

The main event was on the stage; AVPA Visions dancers and students collaborated with the SPED department to put on a performance.  Teachers, students, faculty and staff were invigorated with dance performances that kept everyone on their feet and moving.

Artist, Natasha Morris visits Braddock

Metalsmith artist, Natasha Morris, will be visiting our school on Thursday, November 2nd, in room 1166 at 2:30PM.

Natasha has had her works travel around the world in areas, such as, Greece, France and New York City.  Her work questions, challenges and contradicts the traditional  aesthetics of jewelry and body adornments, "Wearables".

CONGRATULATIONS to Braddock's Blue Regiment Marching Band

Congratulations to Mr. Sacca and the Braddock Blue Regiment Marching Band for competing this past weekend at the Lehigh High School Lightning Tournament of Bands.

Students earned:
Overall 3rd place out of 7 bands in Class 4A
Color Guard earned 1st place and best in class
Drum Major earned a Superior Rating!

AVPA Senior Student ART SHOWCASE

On Friday, May 19, 2017, the AVPA Art department held their 2nd Annual Senior Art Showcase and reception.  The theme this year was, "CAPTURE THE MOMENT"

Senior art students in the academy installed a graduation exhibition in the student art gallery, room 1169, for everyone to see

Please arrange to stop over and visit the gallery and meet the artists themselves.  The students can give you and your classes an in-depth perception into their artwork.

AVPA Dance Recital

The Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts Dance program will be having their annual dance show on May 23rd at 6:30PM in the auditorium.
